The Boston Celtics targets to reach out for people, mainly men, who feel the need to have entertainment of competition between one team and themselves. The segmentation that the Celtics have done has mad them successful with their profits and fans. They single out mainly men first because men are the ones to have that competitive gene inside of them that makes them like the sport. Secondly the Celtics go for females next with the basketball players because of their looks. Females are willing to buy items with the players names and pictures on it.
When it comes to the Celtics geographic segmentation, of course everybody knows that they particularly  Boston to be there number one supporters and fan. Then they steal away fans of other teams and cities by being number one at the game. As for a demographic segmentation's, the go for all ages from females to guys. They may start with young kids becoming fans by doing activities or parties for the kids to enjoy. As for teens they may give away free tickets because teens aren't the richest people in the world and as for adults, they may get free tickets, shirts and maybe even get to meet their favorite players.

 Chapter 11 - Developing & Managing Products

I'm guessing you can say when it comes to the Boston Celtics, their new products are the additional players that they have received in that years draft. The way they would test this is to see how many seats are sold in the prior year verses the year they are in. Just because they add an additional player that might have fans from a different team, the fans might switch over and start going to games of the team the player is on now. This will be the Research and Development of the Boston Celtics, to see the difference in tickets and fans due to an addition or taking a player away.

Chapter 21 - Customer Relationship Management

Celtics relation with their customer are mainly zoned to young adults to the seniors who have always been fans from day 1. The more the customer purchases tickets to game the more the NBA realizes that they are loyal and starts treating customers better. In example giving them free tickets, floor seats or fan boxes for your own personal gathering of a group. There is always the club seats that loyal fans receive as they go along.

Sales promotion is what the Celtics primarily use. They use sales promotion because it is what lures the fans in or just any basketball viewer in to buy their tickets and support the NBA. Discounted tickets are always a "winner" when they are cheap. Depending on a game you may want a discounted tickets in which The Celtics will lower prices using sales promotion to gain more fans on this day.
The Celtics do not really use personal selling. They usually sell tickets online or you go to the Ticketmaster box office. The only time they use personal selling is inside the stores when a customer is face to face about to purchase a piece of merchandise.

Chapter 17 - Advertising & Public Relations

The Boston Celtics Advertising doesn't commence until about a month or two prior to the beginning of their seasons. That is when their fans are looking most to when the games start. In this time they may show clips of the prior seasons games that they did not do too good in and may have a player speak about how they want revenge on that team to show they have gotten better.

Chapter 15 - Retailing

Hats, sweat shirts, sweat pants, pens, note books, just about every item that is able to represent the Celtics name, the Celtics have for sale. They have them in retails stores such as Modells, Footlocker, Finish Line, Lids, etc. In just about any sports store possible and who can forget the arenas gift shops?

One major way that the Celtics sell most of their products are in the arena. A lot of fans are there and always want to "support" their favorite team. Another way the Celtics sell their retail items are online. Shipment is easier instead of having to run out to the store and find what they need.

I think you are right if that is what your thinking?
The NBA players get away with allot of crimes that they do.
